Fashion Targets Breast Cancer

Cinnia Boutique #SHOPSTYLExCFDA #FTBC #cancersucks #CinniaBoutique

This is me with my friend Deb (taken a few years ago). We've been friends since junior high (a very loooooong time ago). She passed away last year after an 11-year battle with inflammatory breast cancer. She was a pediatric ICU nurse for over 25 years. If that didn't give her angel wings, her love and faith in God surely did.

Deb (unlike me) loved to shop! I used to wheel her around Cost Plus and Toys R Us at Christmas time so she could get her shopping done (that was the only in-store shopping I really enjoyed). She made everything fun and we used to laugh like we were still teenagers. We would also visit boutiques when she was feeling up to it, and she would always find something she loved. I've christened a corner of Cinnia Boutique "Deb's Corner"  and put things there that she would have liked. Her colorful, effervescent, whimsical style is somewhat different from my, shall we say, understated style. I'll be donating a portion of each year's sales to a non-profit organization she would approve of. I miss her every day.

Many of us have been touched by someone who has or had breast cancer. Cancer sucks! And it sucks even more when you lose someone you love to the disease. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and there is a very special way you can help in the fight against breast cancer, and get some great fashions in the process! Cinnia Boutique will be donating 10% of all sales (gross revenue) made between October 17th and 23rd to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer® (FTBC), a charitable initiative of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Foundation, which raises funds and public awareness for breast cancer in the U.S. and internationally.

Designers who are part of the CFDA, including Derek Lam, Calvin Klein Collection, The Row and Jennifer Fisher Jewelry are active in the campaign. Others that have lent their support include Gisele Bundchen, Naomi Campbell, Esther Canadas, Helena Christensen, Cindy Crawford, Lily Cole, Lily Donaldson, Minnie Driver, Linda Evangelista, Jerry Hall, Shalom Harlow, Eva Herzigova, Iman, Kylie Minogue, Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer, Fernanda Tavares, Ai Tominaga, Christy Turlington, Twiggy, Amber Valetta, Veronica Webb, Daria Werbowy, and Karolina Kurkova. Quite an impressive list of names there!

Many popular fashion bloggers are also taking up the fight and are raising awareness and getting the word out through their blogs. I’m honored to be included in this group and hope we can all raise a lot of money through our sales during this week.

The American Cancer Society's estimates for breast cancer in the United States for 2016 are:
  •  About 246,660 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women
  •  About 61,000 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) will be diagnosed (CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer)
  • About 40,450 women will die from breast cancer

Please consider purchasing something from one of the CFDA designers here and wear it proudly, knowing you are supporting funds dedicated to fight a disease that will claim the lives of over 40,000 women in the United States by the end of this year.

Here’s a style collage including some of my favorites from the FTBC designers. You can see all my favorites here.

And because Deb always used to tell me “cancer sucks,” I’ve designed this t-shirt that I’m going to wear A LOT this month, with a portion of proceeds going to cancer research. I think she’d like it. If you have someone that you'd like to honor by purchasing and wearing this t-shirt, please send me a pic of you wearing it and I'll post it on Facebook and Twitter.
